Nella mia continua ricerca di repertori inusuali che esaltino le qualità del violoncello solista, questa volta ho recuperato un mio amore adolescenziale, ovvero la Sonata Op. 6 per violoncello e pianoforte di Richard Strauss. Si tratta di una sonata giovanile del compositore che già rivela ampiamente la natura di quella che sarà l’estetica dello Strauss maturo. Ho eseguito moltissime volte la sonata con pianoforte e ad ogni esecuzione mi rendevo conto che la scrittura pianistica, estremamente complessa, si sarebbe prestata per una versione orchestrale. Con un discreto coraggio, mi sono rivolta al compositore Giovanni Veneri, anche abilissimo orchestratore, che al primo incontro mi fece moltissime domande e mi esternò le sue perplessità in merito ad un'orchestrazione possibile. Tuttavia, la mia determinazione e l’istinto musicale che mi spingeva a fare questa particolare richiesta lo hanno ben presto convinto ad iniziare il lavoro. E' nato dunque un vero e proprio concerto per violoncello e orchestra: le timbriche delle varie sezioni donano a questa opera una versione intellegibile e quindi, dal mio personale punto di vista, un ascolto più facilmente comprensibile da parte del pubblico. Ne abbiamo fatta una prima esecuzione a Milano, in Sala Verdi, il 14 febbraio 2022 con l’orchestra Cupiditas e il direttore Pietro Veneri. Un altro mio sogno che ha preso forma e che si è dunque realizzato.

In my ongoing search for unusual repertoire that enhances the qualities of the solo cello, this time I recovered an adolescent love of mine, namely Richard Strauss's Sonata Op. 6 for cello and piano. It is a youthful sonata by the composer that already amply reveals the nature of what will be the aesthetic of the mature Strauss. I have performed the piano sonata many times and with each performance I realised that the extremely complex piano writing would lend itself to an orchestral version. With a fair amount of courage, I approached the composer Giovanni Veneri, also a skilled orchestrator, who at the first meeting asked me many questions and expressed his misgivings about a possible orchestration. However, my determination and musical instinct to make this particular request soon convinced him to start the work. Thus, a true concerto for cello and orchestra was born: the timbres of the various sections give this work an intelligible version and thus, from my personal point of view, a more easily comprehensible listening experience for the audience. We premiered it in Milan, in the Sala Verdi, on 14 February 2022 with the orchestra Cupiditas and conductor Pietro Veneri. Another dream of mine that has taken shape and come true.
